It's now been a total of fourteen days without the use of our vehicles. And how has it been? Pretty awesome. I've come to realize that cars are very convenient and often seemingly necessary (and arguably necessary in some cases) but much of the time I was using my vehicles I was just being lazy.
A lot of the time we use our cars without even thinking. "You need to go mail something at the post office....and then you get in the car and drive a half mile to do it instead of walking or biking." Cars have a lazying effect and are such a part of our lives that we often rely on them way more than we should.
I have not felt deprived in any way since I've stopped driving my vehicles, in fact, not driving them has only enriched my life. I have increased my level of physical activity since I bike, walk, rollerblade, and run everywhere. I have saved the earth from the pollution it would have received from my vehicles and have saved a lot of money by not gassing them. I have created an appreciation for the things I have and have realized that a lot of the habits I nursed more so when I was driving (eating out, driving, and shopping) were just that, habits.
In case you are wondering here's a brief summary of the past week (some things are probably missing though :) :
