The Colon Cleanse

I recently wrote about fasting, which I did in conjunction with a colon cleansing program. For my cleanse I used the Blessed Herbs “The Colon Cleansing Kit”. This was my first experience with any type of colon cleansing so besides what information I read on the Internet I really didn't know what to expect physically or emotionally.

I am very pleased with the results I got from this kit. If you go the the Blessed Herbs website you can see pictures of gunk people expelled during their colon cleanse and I can tell you that if you decide to fast while on this kit you might see results like the ones on the site.....I did.... :)

So why clean your colon and what kind of results can you expect to see from cleaning your colon? Well a main reason to do a colon cleanse is to remove buildup of plaque and toxins from the inside of your intestines, it can also help to remove some parasites (which aren't as uncommon as you may think). How do we get a build up of junk and toxins? By stuffing our bodies with low fiber crappy food filled with unhealthy additives and other garbage. We essentially clog ourselves with crap and this in a way clogs our body because it's harder to eliminate toxins.

When we have a clean colon we are able to rid ourselves of the bad stuff easier. Many people experience more regular bowels, less acne, reduction or elimination of irritable bowel syndrome...and really I could go on because once you clean your colon and can expel waste faster the benefits to your body are endless.

Some Tips for Colon Cleansing:

There are lots of ways to cleanse your colon, you can do colonics, enemas, herbal colon cleanses, and even just diet modifications. I chose a herbal cleansing kit because it is what I felt most comfortable with and drawn to do. So figure out what you are most comfortable with and follow your instinct when it comes to cleansing.

Secondly, make sure you read the instructions to whatever program or method you may be using to cleanse. I thought I had gone overboard reading and rereading everything in my booklets that came with the kit and then I realized that for three days of my precleanse I had been doing the wrong thing simply because I hadn't read the directions carefully enough!

Follow your instincts and don't push yourself beyond what you are ready for mentally and physically. This kind of goes along with my first tip, but it's really important to be in touch with yourself and gauge your reaction to your cleanse. For example, the kit I used had an option to fast throughout the cleanse and I decided to fast for the beginning part of my cleanse but was compelled to only do it through half the cleanse since I am inexperienced with fasting.

One last bit, a lot of colon cleansing products use psyllium husks as an ingredient and if you have never used psyllium husks before (like me) then you might be surprised to see how much this stuff expands when added to water. In my kit I was instructed to take a little packet of psyllium husks and some other ingredients and add it to my shaker of water...oh and to drink it quickly followed by another glass of water. Well....I didn't realize how quickly they meant. As I drank the solution at a moderate pace I began to realize that the stuff was still expanding in the shaker jar and I wasn't hardly making any progress in finishing off the solution...it literally kept expanding...growing...lol. This was my only complaint of the cleansing systems I used, I had a really hard time drinking the psyllium husks, but it worked!
