The Colon Cleanse Lesson

Approximately a year ago I bought my first colon cleansing kit. I researched high and low and finally found one I was comfortable taking and guess what?....I never did it!......until now that is. My colon cleansing purchase was a lesson to me about getting ahead of yourself and lying to yourself about what you are and aren't ready to do. After I purchased the kit I came up with a hundred of reasons why I should wait to do it, it became one of those things you dread to do and put on a to do list that never gets done.

Now I realized that I wasn't ready to do the kit when I bought it. I was jumping the gun and bolting into something that I wasn't mentally prepared to do. This realization occurred again while I was doing the kit, I am pushing myself to do things I am not ready to do and because of this I am miserable doing the things I am.....translation: When you start to read about alternative (ha!) health and natural lifestyles you will find more and more that what you are doing is wrong! I've come to discover that even within the realm of eating organic and healthy there are sooo many different philosophies and strategies such as:

Eating whole foods - even if they are non-organic
Eating all organic – but perhaps lots of packaged foods
Eating 100% raw
Vegans
Vegetarianism
Frutarians

And I mean these are just a few ways to live, a very small few. When I first started eating healthier I added more fruits and vegetables and bought organic items to replace the common packaged items I ate like cookies and chips. I have since gravitated to being more concerned with eating whole foods than eating lots of processed organic food. Now lately I have come to the conclusion that 100% raw is the way to go if you want to maximize your health and energy. So, I have come to feel “bad” about the whole foods I have been eating that have been cooked. This cleanse has helped me to gain perspective that I am not ready (nor is my family) to turn 100% raw and perhaps we won't be for a while. In my experience it takes time to transition and if you don't you will end up not having a good time in your pursuit of a healthier life and in my opinion health without happiness doesn't really exist.

So finally, trust your intuition when it comes to becoming healthier. You will know when you are ready to progress and you will naturally gravitate and more healthy ways if you allow yourself to stay open to the opportunity. Don't feel bad about the progress you have made, feel awesome! If you have come all the way from not being concerned with what you put in your body and following the SAD and now you are eating mainly whole foods, don't feel ashamed you aren't all raw or 100% organic, feel proud that you have made it to a point many people never reach. Feel alive!
