Whether you are looking to help the earth, get some nutrient rich soil for your garden, or to simply reduce the amount of trash you send to the curb each week, composting is for you. I choose to compost because it makes sense to me to not throw items in the trash that don't really belong there, I don't want to fill our landfills with banana peals and orange rinds, which will quickly become soil in my backyard. Since composting is incredibly easy to do and requires virtually no time to make and maintain I suggest everyone start one to help reduce the destructive impact we have on the world.
If you have never composted before you might think you don't have a big enough yard or that you simply can't because you have no yard and that is inaccurate. There are actually compost systems that you can buy that are plastic bins that can be used indoors and won't even smell and there are a variety of options for outdoor composts.
Some of the outdoor compost types are piles (simply put your items in a pile), soil incorporation (which is a fancy term for digging a hole and putting the items in it), plastic bin holdings, wire holdings, wood holdings, (all of which are bins made out of plastic, wire, or wood), worm bins (which use worms to compost), and barrel compost systems (which use a barrel to help turn the compost).
If you want to utilize your compost you'll need to turn it to help the pile decompose faster. How often you turn it depends on the effort you want to put into it and the type of system you have. Personally the only types of compost systems I have ever used are soil incorporation (again just digging a hole and throwing your items in it) and piles, both require no cost and are easy to do.
Composting is an incredibly easy way to help our earth and reduce the amount of waste filling our landfills. Make one today!
